Passing Through

Beads, materials and words on womanhood, memory and becoming.

Passing Through is a collection of adornments and words reflecting on the experience of being a woman. Through wishes, prayers, affirmations and reflections on rebirth, the collection considers the selves we inhabit, the lives we imagine and the things we carry with us as we move through the world.

Beads, stones, horn and other materials come together in arrangements shaped by colour, texture and contrast. Antique beads bring traces of earlier lives and journeys, while stones and organic materials introduce their own physical qualities and histories. Through adornment, these materials enter new relationships with the body, gathering further meaning through the act of wearing and keeping.

The words accompanying the pieces explore self-belief, courage, memory, possibility and the changing nature of identity. Together, the objects and words reflect on womanhood as a lived experience: something shaped by what we have known, what we have outgrown, what we hold dear and what we are still becoming.

Beaded necklace with gold-leaf-covered haematite and antique Naga seed beads

Delicate Strength
Materials: Gold-leaf-covered haematite and antique Naga seed beads.

Strength does not always announce itself. Sometimes it lives in the quiet persistence of things that might easily be overlooked. Gold leaf lends its surface to haematite, while the finest antique Naga seed beads bring intricacy to the arrangement. Together, the materials explore a tension between substance and delicacy, surface and structure, reminding us that fragility and strength need not be opposites.

Beaded necklace made with red antique Naga seed beads, basalt and black onyx

A Little Prayer
Materials: Red antique Naga seed beads, basalt and black onyx.

Wishes, secrets, sacred chants.
Some words are spoken into the world; others are held close, repeated quietly or offered in private. A Little Prayer considers adornment as a place for these intimate expressions, where what we carry on the body may hold a meaning known only to us. Red antique Indian seed beads meet basalt and black onyx, bringing together the fine repetition of small beads and the weight and presence of stone. The materials form a quiet study in contrast, colour and texture, making space for the things we wish for, the things we keep, and the words we choose to carry with us.

A fleeting thing this little life of mine.

Memories made, friendships cherished.

Waiting to taste the Earth through

all the other women I am yet to birth.

Until then, just passing though.

Beaded necklace combining moonstone and buffalo horn

Crystal Wish
Materials: Moonstone and buffalo horn.

A wish begins somewhere between what is and what might be.
Bringing moonstone together with buffalo horn, Crystal Wish considers the things we hope for, the possibilities we hold close and the quiet act of imagining what lies ahead. One material catches the light; the other carries the character of an organic material shaped for adornment. Together, they form a small object to keep close as a reminder of the things still taking shape.

Beaded necklace made with buffalo horn, antique coral, howlite and Czech glass beads

Sticks and Stones
Materials: Buffalo horn, antique coral, howlite and antique Czech glass beads.

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never break me.”
Taking its cue from the familiar rhyme, Sticks and Stones turns towards the words we speak to ourselves, and the worlds we shape through them. Made with buffalo horn, antique coral and howlite sourced in Thailand, alongside antique Czech glass beads, the piece brings together materials with distinct origins and histories. Some carry traces of organic life; others bear the marks of mineral formation and the traditions of beadmaking. Arranged together, they acquire another life through adornment.

Elegance quietly dresses womanhood.
Womanhood is a song heard by those who have been initiated into the cults of confidence, courage, femininity, quiet strength, bottomless love, echoes of wisdom.
Those who are not afraid to live. Those who nourish and birth the beautiful where there was nothing.
We the brave.

Beaded necklace with tiger's eye, onyx and raw moonstone

Rebirth
Materials: Tiger’s eye, onyx and raw moonstone.

Rebirth speaks to the possibility of becoming again. Not a return to who we once were, but a continuation shaped by experience, change and the things we carry forward. Tiger’s eye, onyx and raw moonstone bring together distinct patterns, surfaces and degrees of finish. The polished stones sit alongside the irregularity of raw moonstone, holding a quiet tension between refinement and the unformed. The piece considers transformation as an ongoing process: a life continually taking shape.

Galaxies
Materials: Assorted semi precious stones, a carnelian bead, and an antique Ghanaian bead.

Lest you forget, you carry the stars in your bones and the ethereal energy of all the great goddesses runs in your veins. Composed of tiny agate beads, a single carnelian stone and an antique bead made in Ghana, Galaxies brings together materials of different colours, origins and histories. The title invites us to consider the relationship between the vastness of the universe and the intimacy of the body. The affirmation draws on this connection, imagining the wearer as a meeting place for celestial wonder, feminine power and the deep continuities between the world beyond us and the life within us.
